Jean-Philippe Aumasson

I am a security architect and cryptography expert at NAGRA, at the headquarters in Cheseaux, Switzerland. I obtained a PhD from EPFL in 2009, while working as a researcher at FHNW under the supervision of Willi Meier. Prior to that I received a research master in computer science from Paris 7 University.

My research interests are in cryptography and information security. My main area of expertise is the design and analysis of high-security efficient cryptography solutions for resource-constrained environments.

I am principal designer of the hash function BLAKE, one of the five finalists in NIST's SHA-3 competition (2008-2012). I also designed Quark, a state-of-the-art cryptographic function with minimized hardware footprint and power consumption (presented at CHES 2010).

I have published cryptanalysis results on Salsa20 (presented at FSE 2008), MULTI2 (FSE 2009), Trivium (FSE 2009), Grain (SHARCS 2009), and Skein (Asiacrypt 2009). I co-invented new cryptanalytic attacks including cube testers, zero-sum attacks, tuple attacks, and bananas.
